In 1991, the country singer announced her retirement from music after being diagnosed with hepatitis C. Judd publicly declared she was cured seven years later after doctors told her that she had only three years left to live. She wrote a guest column for website Everyday Health in 2014 sharing her story. “It was likely incurred from an infected needle when I worked as a registered nurse,” Judd said.
